Innovation Olympics: Be
Your Own Boss (BYOB)
On April 28th 2010, ABESE held the first
ever Innovation Olympics, an event designed to
promote the idea and practice of entrepreneurship and
innovation on the Louisiana Tech University campus. The
board members of ABESE organized an creative approach to the
traditional open forum. The event consisted of a series of
games connected to entrepreneurship and innovation, and
group interaction with knowledgeable entrepreneurs.
The entire Louisiana Tech student body was
invited to attend the Innovation Olympics sponsored
by Rick Breen's Shell Rapid Lube and Wash. Students competed
to win a Nintendo Wii, a Sony Playstation 3, and various
other gift cards from local businesses.
However, what made the event such a great
opportunity was the attendance of Louisiana Tech's
entrepreneurs, Jonah and Whitney Ukpai, Noah Bergeron, Josh
Raley, and Josh Brown. These alumni networked and conversed
with the students in attendance about their entrepreneurial
experiences. Jeffrey Goodman, an independent filmmaker, also
attended and spoke about the filming and financing of his
movie in Shreveport, Louisiana.
At the close of the event, ABESE awarded
hundreds of dollars in prizes to deserving students.
Louisiana Tech students Gadhadar Changalaraya won the Wii
and Britain White won the Playstation 3. Be on the
lookout for the second Innovation Olympics to be held
in the Fall of 2010 for your chance to win some great
prizes.
